I have been looking for a business to start. This is homemade but a first product. It is a hobo stove made from a new 1 gal. paint can with a grill made for the top. It cooks very well with just twigs and sticks. It is a beginning.

This really is a prototype. I like the idea of the HOBO stove. I could not find any light weight stove for the outdoor, hunter, fisherman that was between the backpacker compact and the tent size. The is made from a one new one gallon paint can. Grill on top works well. It can be carried in the boat, pickup, work truck etc. It is compact but still large enough to really cook with pots and pans. The thin steel handle does not convect heat. I plan to make a side line business out of it. I will refine the design. I used it and it works very well with just twigs and sticks.

Just some ideas/suggestions.
-is the handle removeable so that it takes less room Options/extras -What about an adjustable door to control the fuel consumption. -Perhaps add 3 or 4 rods the length of the stove with brackets so that you could raise it off the ground so that there is less squatting. Of course this would only work if the stove had a bottom or something to set it on. I have made a stove in the past using the 3rd largest pot of a 4 piece pot set. This way it all packs together nicely and it takes no extra room in my pack. I even added a collapsible 6" stove pipe for an extension. Great looking stove by the way! |

I have found a source for a nice 2 gallon paint can of thicker metal and larger capacity that I will continue this project with. I may make some more like this with a door if possible.

Woodcarver, Sir,
You hvae in my opinion a verry good, portable out door stove whta is made from simple materiels whta is basickally environ-mentally good. If you can can keep retail price to a minimum bearing in mind your profit, thne I think theres a deffy market for this. Some of my thorts. How labor intensiv is making each one? How long do each can take to build? If, say, a marketeer wanted 100, how long wuold 100 take you to make? Is the mesh bendy enuff to to slip into the can for shipping? Will it retane its shape after? Even after it been fired? Put washers bet ween can and wing nut or, repeated use will mark can. Make handle heat proof. Or - burnt mitts. a 2 gallo can is better. More torshunally stiffer to hold better weight. Whne I livved in Russia, oil drums was cut like yours for keeping hobos warm at night, and also for cooking sweet chest nuts on. Theys had steel net-bracings on top. Theys was used originlly for setting in to concrete. Your onto a winner. Keep on at it. Dont give up. Make a batch of at least 100, and take to a summer fair. Demon-strate it, tawk the tawk and thne get selling speshul offer - a pack of bacons free with evvery speshul wood can. (bulk buy your bacons hole sale but off-set cost agaynst capital xpenditure) You will gte the punters, they see, thems smell the bacons Cash only means cash in pocket n walk away smiling. You is only as good as the last job. So make good produckt. And walk the walk. Love, Tara

Might have known Tara would beat a path here. Ever business minded with intent always to make money, I think her input deserves consideration as does the
prospect of our buying one of these Hobo Stoves a practical possibility. WC I think you're onto a winner with it.

But if they're hungry chances are you just lost a customer. Unless you can sell an Eskimo an ice making machine you'd best have either some chocolate or big soft cookies or sweeten the deal with candy or some trinket. I've lost a few sales due to the pleasing aroma of hot food. I've also made sales throwing in a candy bar or an extra candle or two. |

woodcarver, neet idea. couple thoughts. use the origional paint can handle to make the whole package smaller. the hole in side maybe a little smaller .
removable grill in bottom to hold fuel up off the bottom and ashes will collect below, same material as top grill. Vents in can sides at bottom to vent air in
below fuel grill. Make the top grill to fit inside can and use the origional lid to hold everything in. Add on kit with one of these grill lighters and a small
bag of carcoal for the first time users.
