Does anyone remember the name of the flat folding hiking stove that Cabelas used to sell. It was probably 8" high and 6" square at the base. It
looked like a pyramid with a flat top....

If it's the same one that Sportsman's Guide has been advertising for years, they're fairly
handy. I've had one for years and it's come in to it's own several times.

FXDXT - I like that one that lawdog mentioned but I found two other wood stoves that are very interesting variants - http://www.makairametal.com/outdoorgear.htm

Thanks for all the HELP!!!! Those stoves are very close to the one I remember at Cabella's. One thing I forgot about was the weight...two pounds is a lot.
In looking around I found the Littlbug woodstove....more expensive but folds flat as a pancake and lighter than a stack of flapjacks... www.littlbug.com I hope to try it out this week. I may order one of these stoves just for car camping... Thanks again!!!! Bob

Weight is one of those tricky things when considering stoves.
I have had one of the MSR Whisperlite Internationals for years. It's great and runs on practically anything liquid that burns. And it's light! Very light. But that doesn't include the fuel bottle. Suddenly it's much heavier and is dependant on what fuel I bring with me. The little folder is heavier but will burn anything I can find that will light. Trade off. Anymore it depends on where (and for how long) I'm going, on which I take. |

I think The Backwoodsman magazine is also selling a version of that Pocket Cooker as well, but I don't know if priced competively with other spots.
FXDXT, thanks for referencing that littlbug stove - never seen it before. Cool. Looks like a Zen Stove (Jamica) I bought many years ago.
Also, Swedish Trancia set could be converted to wood use, but take some practice. Hey, theres my Pocket Cooker!

lawdog41 wrote: Thats a pretty slick lil stove!! Pretty good price too just $13+SHPG...so long as the shpg doesn't cost an arm and a leg. If I was to get it I think I would get 2, one for my sled and other in BOB. |

FXDXT wrote: The stove I take for truck camping I bought brand spanking new in 1990 for $60. Welded up airtight weighs about 45-50#. Runs 4" pipe. Looks super stylin' poking out of pipejack in my canvas tent. Warmed my lodge many a cold night and cooked many suppers on it. I gotta say tho I really like that little stove. If I was making a bit more money right now I'd seriously consider picking one up locally. |

I wanna experiment with making some of those "Puck" stoves that use alcohol or other liquid fuels try to come up with a burner that will use a wide
variety of fuels well. i was intrested a while back but never got around to messing with it might do some experiments this winter.
JUST BECAUSE I'M PARANOID, DOESN'T MEAN THEY'RE NOT OUT TO GET ME. |
