1) The firearm will be used for survival situations in the wilds. This means after pulling oneself out of an airplane crash in the Canadian bush, or dragging oneself out of a frosty river after overturning a canoe, or having to walk 50 miles after rolling a 4x4 into a canyon.
2) Self defense from 2 legged creatures will be nearly zero, so we'll reserve that type of discussion to the Defense weapons forum.
3) I'd like each of the following areas to be discussed in the same order so that I may tally some data on the discussion:
a) Types of jobs it will need to accomplish: this will vary the most, but I think we can come up with a solution through the discussion
b) Type of firearm: DOUBLE BARREL LONGGUN, Rifle, handgun/piston, shotgun, combination, etc.
c) Type of Action: BREAK ACTION, bolt action, break action, lever action, semi-auto, revolver, pump, etc.
d) Caliber(s)/Gauge(s): .22 WMR and 12 gauge
e) Stock, grip, forend design(s), as needed
f) Sighting system(s)
g) Magazine design, if needed, NOT NEEDED
h) Carrying system: holster, sling(s), scabbard, etc.
I hope this brings out some good discussions on all the above and we can come up with a single design that all Cabinites would gladly carry into the wilderness!
