CRKT M16-10KZ Carston
Because CRKT knives are on almost every outdoor website, Kit
Carson's M16® designs seem to be the most popular series going. The blade on my newly purchased CRKT M16-10KZ is manufactured from AUS 4 high-carbon
stainless steel that gives, according to its maker "an ideal combination of toughness and edge-holding ability in a work knife, and also allows easy
field-sharpening". This "K" model has a black EDP finish. This makes for a great little utility knife that slips easily into no space at all
though the blade material AUS 4 I did not find easy to sharpen. It took me a good 20 minutes to get the blade sharpened to how I prefer: razor sharp.
Still, it is good bargain and I must not complain because I bought it online in a sale for just £13.00
*Update: Since over a year ago, I am very pleased about how dependable this utility safety knife by Kit Carston has been. After initially cutting my finger on the little brute the first time I opened it, it has performed every task I required of it, and since been lovingly kept in an oil cloth, how beautifully its AUS 4 EDP coated stainless steel blade has performed on a wide variety oif everyday tasks.
Specification:
Ambidextrous Thumb stud Folder with Carson Flipper
Blade Material: AUS 4 Stainless Steel
Blade Style: Tanto Point
Blade Finish: Partially Serrated Black EDP Finish
Handle Material: Dual 420J2 Stainless Steel Liner inter-frame with Textured Zytel® Scales
Locking Mechanism: AutoLAWKS™
Edge: Plain or Partial Serration
Carry Method: Removable Black Teflon Plated
Stainless Steel Pocket/Gear Clip
Blade Length: 3.00"
Handle Length: 4.00"
Overall Open Length 7.125"
Weight: 2.3 oz.
Nice cut-through scales adding lightness so the weight is a mere 2.3 oz
The AutoLAWKS™ knife safety is built into all CRKT models. AutoLAWKS™ automatically actuates when the blades are open, making these folders into virtual fixed blades when locked. They open and close with a satisfying and reassuring snap.
However, despite carefully reading the instructions I managed to let the M16-10KZ 's ultra sharp AUS 4 blade fall onto my little finger, whereupon I bled profusely. This little knife may be small but it also is a little pig, so care must be taken on closing.
