I have always been a Suker for a good Rem 870. I have knocked down a ton of game over the years. for a combat shotgun I have a mosberg 590 special purpose,
speed feed stock ghost ring sights and a mod accu choke. The gun has been pressed in to service as a pheasant and small game gun and is very reliable even when
dirty/wet or dry as a bone. 
My fantasy combat shotgun is a Neostead 12 ga Combat Shotgun. Dual tube on top you may use the shell
from each tube or select a side which would be handy for sabot slug or 00 buck. Last I heard the neostead shotgun couldn't be imported because it was a
south african company.
What is your fantasy or goal for a combat shotgun and why?

I like simple, a Mossberg 500 with a 20 inch accuchoke barrel and rifle sights. It works for me, the only thing I might change one day might be a synthetic
stock, of the same pattern and woodlook as the original if I can find one. If such things can be termed as harmless looking, I prefer "harmless"
looking, simple looking, hunting looking firearms. They tend to get overlooked by many people easier than military looking, or what are generally considered
"tactical" weapons. Simple and plain and functional in their own right is my motto
 .

K.I.S.S is my favorite saying and I try to live my life accordingly. So, my shotgun is a Remington 870 Express 12ga, with 28" remchoke barrel. I like the
looks of the tactical style scatterguns and would like a ghost ring sight on my gun, but I really perfer and will stay with wood and have decided to just get a
parkerized black matte 20" smooth bore with rifle sights and a fixed imrpoved cylinder choke. I wanted to add a mag tube extension, but decided against
after finding out that I had to grind the dimples inside of the existing tube. I would like to get one of the short walnut police/military style forends for
the gun though.

You don't have to gring the dimples out, just swage the metal back to where it started.
A bronze (or steel) insert of tube ID and an outer support tube will nicely take care of it. |

Thanks for the info lawdog. Ordered the barrel on Saturday and because of holiday, am fairly sure that it'll arrive in early December.

I've also seen folks use a tapered socket (from a socket set- I can't remember what size though). Just go slow and be careful and you'll be fine.
