... is three PowerBars...to get to where you are going is going to take at about 5 days. You are going to be on the move the whole time when not sleeping.
Water is not a problem but gathering any other food will be. How would you make the PowerBars last and why.... Bob

It should be fine. As long as you nibble on them a little at a time and make them last, the body will start and continue to burn fat for fuel. Otherwise the
body will store the fat, thinking it's starving and will start burning your muscle. At least, that is how it was explained to me.
All life is subject to the laws of Nature, or to be more precise, the laws of our CREATOR. |

Depending on the climate, warm to hot weather should take less calories to go five days than 5 days to cool to cold weather. Trying to stay warm will take more
calories. 5 days should not be a problem at all, you should be able to go at least 3 weeks with minimal food, it's the shortage of water that will kill you
very quickly.

If water is 'not' a problem for the entire duration, then I'd plan on 1/2 a bar a day and lots of water. Chances are if I'm having to move that
much, I won't even 'think' about food as long as I have enough water to keep me hydrated. I know I have enough internal reserves I won't
shrivel up and fly away like dust! LOL! I'd probably end up eating a whole bar during the course of the first day just because my body is getting used to
the change, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it and eat the 1/2 when ever I thought of it during the course of the day...Probably at night after stopping
and resting and then 'thinking' about food...

I like food, I like to eat so it would be a miserable 5 days. LOL!
At 175lbs I dont have a lot of body fat to burn off, but I could get by for 5 days with minimal food if that is what needed to be done. During a survival course I attended one year we were issued one MRE, other than that we had a knife, BDU's and nothing more. Be amazed at what you will eat when hunger sets in and you need energy. Lot of little things that crawl are full of protein and will provide energy to keep you going once you learn to keep them down. Diarrhea will set in on about the second to third day when you have very little solid food intake and lots of fluid's. Unless you have a way to stop the runs you could die due to dehydration if you are in a warm climate. If food is going to be a problem I highly recommend keeping anti-diarrhea meds on your person 24/7, might just save your life. |

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies.... Beside the actual "food" consumed, I was also wondeing about when it would be most
"psycologically" advantageous to eat... Great replies...Thanks again...Bob

I would plan on stretching them like the others, I think that I would try and eat just before bed. Phychologically it would be better ot try and sleep with at
least something on the stomach. Would make it rougher being hungry and tired...

Other than Bob's posting I deliberately haven't read other peoples replies. This is what I would do.
Assuming water isn't a problem, my food gathering would be any time from dawn but only until midday, because where I live is very hot in summer, so would sleep from mid afternoon in shelter away from the sun into best part of the night. My first ½ power bar would be before dawn, before embarking. Hopefully, any food I found while on the hoof would be eaten on the spot. Based on summertime activity, my main concern is the high amount of calories my body would burn between waking and sleeping. I am 140 lbs, 150 on a "fat" day. My height is 5' 7", I am lean and quite muscular for a 17 yo girl but that comes from doing a physical job. My body metabolises fat easily so I would plan on rationing myself to just ½ a power bar a day. I consume a fair amount of protein and carbohydrates a day and drink loads of water. But I don't think that for me, rationing to eating just ½ a power bar a day is possible unless water was plentiful in supply. However - water weighs heavy, and carrying weight consumes a lot of calories. I don't think I would survive. Thanks, Bob. Very interesting, made me really think it all out! Lyra |

I would eat all three the first day (one every 4 to 6 hours) and be done with it. Three bars over 5 days means my body just isn't going to get enough
nutrition or energy boost to make rationing worth it. Better to eat well one day and concentrate my thoughts on getting to where I'm going rather than
thinking about whether or not to have another bar. Besides, I could stand to lose a few pounds.

For myself and my area I'd be pretty much fine with only the three power bars.
There's enough fodder scattered around to graze my way to a leaner, grumpier me at my end location. And I don't know about you but there ain't no way I could or would be constantly on the move for 5 days. A person has to rest sometime. I make fire to keep warm, I cook food. I sleep. |

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies... For me, I think that since I had eaten a regual meal the night before I would try and skip eating Day I. Then eat one
bar a day for Days II, III and IV knowning I would get food at the end of Day V. Lyra...there is plenty of water along the way in this scenario, carrying
anything more than a small canteen would not be necessary...so you would survive. We would all miss you around here if you didn't.... Bob

Gotta agree with Taiga's reply- five days without food isn't that hard. I hate Powerbars, but I'd probably eat a whole one the first day then
split the other two for the remaining days if I could stomach them.

I'd eat the powerbars at the end of the first day and just drink lots of water. 3 powerbars wouldnt be enough to sustain you for 5 days so at least eating
the 3 in one go with lots of water is going to help a little the first night, and drinking as much water as possible might just take your mind off the fact
your hungry, in theory.

What season? Wher urban/ rural. Can you eat before you leave? How many miles are you covering. Is hunting, fishing, foraging, and pillaging not a option.
I would go the first day with out assuming i have been eatting regularly I would split the the bars into quarters and ration them across the four remaining days, assuming theres food at the finish line? |
