I like and use mostly clipper lighters, they are like the BIC, but they're refillable,and the sparkling mechanism is also refillable, so you can take it out, replace flints and even use separately like the Doug Ritter's sparklite. Like the BICs there is a "mini" version.
When i'm outdoors i carry a little bag with a spare spark mechanism, spare flints,and some sticks of cotton with parafine i make myself, they are waterproof, ignite very easy with the sparks and keep on burning for long, they are windproof and if you need only a little piece you can cut or break what you need.
If you only need a flame for short you can lit one of this sticks, use and estinguish, then reuse all times you want.
i also carry a backup of cotton mixed with petroleum jelly in an hermetic container, and some char cloth also in an hermetic container, char cloth will lit with any spark and also with a magnifying glass very easy.
