Ammunition availability!!

It looks like ammo and reloading components are getting more abundant as I check the stores. This is good! I'm not seeing prices coming down yet, but greater stock on the shelves is a move in the right direction. I've been slowly adding to my .22 rimfire stores of late. Mostly I've been picking up specialty ammo such as CB Longs, Small Game specific loads and .22WMR in various loads.

I haven't seen any Federal Bulk Packs in literally a couple of months, so...

MOLLE Shotgun Scabbard?

Right now, Sportmans Guide has a pretty good price on them ($24 plus s&h) and I think they will be a useful addition. The outside straps allow you to attach different items outside the scabbard (though I wouldn't want to over do this ). I attached a Gerber brush hook axe and CS Bushman on it - a canteen or other small pouch would be able to be secured below this.

Tapco Fusion T-6 stock for a 10/22...Initial thoughts...

I picked up a new Tapco Fusion T-6 stock for one of my 10/22's today so we would have a multi-position stock for Connor as he's growing.

The quality of manufacture is not the greatest!! I had to scrape mold lines to get pieces to fit together on the stock tube. The adjustable stock piece doesn't fit perfectly and has some wobble. No tools are supplied and you actually need a 3/8" nut driver or socket!!

Hi Point 995 30 or 32 round magazine?

I just got a hi point 995 9mm carbine. I have the 10 round magazines, and I have seen the 15's but my uncle said there is a 30 or 32 round one that you can get.

Anyone have any idea where?

I checked locally, and have done some searching and had no luck, but Im knew to all this.

First day out shooting it today, had a great time.

I'm contemplating getting a Lee Load-All for the 12ga. I would also get the primer loader attachment. Do you happen to have one? What has your experiences been with the Load All? I am also contemplating getting the 20ga conversion, would it be worthwhile?

Also, I'm looking at getting a Lee Slug Mold for the 12ga. Does anybody have any experience with casting and/or loading slugs?

Ammo availability and prices...

I see some ammo availability is starting to get better locally, including reloading components such as powders, small rifle and large pistol primers. Unfortunately, prices seem to vary. I see one store actually DROPPED their prices on .223 ammo by a couple of bucks a box, while most everything else has either stayed the same or INCREASED!

The same store had about 30 boxes of 12ga slugs, two packs of 10boxes taped together for $32 a couple of weeks ago...I hemmed and hawed over...

One shop that I frequent has quite a bit of 9mm and 5.56 ammo currently! I was pleasantly surprised as was the one salesman I spoke with. He was surprised the 9mm didn't sell out over the weekend! So maybe there's hope that guys will slow down on their purchases a bit in the near future. Also, they had literally CASES of 5.56 and Fiocchi .22LR 38gr...

Scoping an airgun...

Now that I dug out my Daisy 880 again and am really getting back into it, I'm considering mounting a scope on it again. I started, as most, pre-teen/teenagers with a small 4x15mm scope on my 880 back in 1982. It was awesome for shooting gophers, blackbirds, pigeons, crows, sparrows and swallows around the farm! Now I'd like a little bigger lens to work with. With the difference in recoil with airguns, esp. the springers, I know some scopes won't hold up. What scopes I should...

.177 Pellet choices?

Do you have a favorite or set of favorite .177 caliber pellets for target/plinking/hunting? I'm just getting back into serious airgun shooting and relied mostly on BB's in my younger days! Now I'm finding pellets are really a great training tool, esp. with a pellet trap in the garage. So said, I'm out of the loop on worthwhile pellets to consider. I bought a few different samples to try out of my Daisy 880 and Crosman 357. I even found a tin of HP's! Do these really...

Airguns and supplies getting in short supply????

I was checking things out in the airguns area of a local store a few days ago and noticed a lot of EMPTY racks/shelves. It seems the ammunition/gun grab has started to shift to airguns locally! I'm hoping this is because the weather got nice and guys are buying for their kids, etc. But for some reason I doubt this to some extent. Are airguns, BB's, pellets, etc. being bought up in your area???

Hi guys!

I've been reloading centerfire handgun and rifle ammunition since 1994. But I have NEVER loaded a single shotgun shell! I understand the basics and am looking at getting a Lee Load All for a starter loading setup.

So my main questions this evening are:
1) What powders would you recommend I consider? I'll probably end up loading 12 and 20 gauge and wouldn't mind something that can do double duty for loads in the .44's.

lubing cast bullets

In a field/SERE scenario casting and loading
with minimum gear .... Lee Loader, Lee mould etc:

use Lee Liquid Alox and let bullets dry overnight.
or .........
place stick of solid lube in tuna can. Heat to melt lube.
Dip bullet up to crimp ring in molten lube.
Wipe off excess and use immediately.

Use a binder clip aka bulldog clip to lube three
or more bullets at a time.

I know it's been happening for a while, but the primer and powder shortages seem to be getting worse rather than better. I visited with the Sportsmans Warehouse manager yesterday for almost an hour. His ammo, reloading and gun sections are getting close to empty for more than one reason. It seems the military is buying up a LOT of ammo, getting ready for Afghanistan is the consensus, then reloaders, old and LOTS OF NEWBIES are stockpiling with the current government political party...

I have found that in a nylon Uncle Mikes double stack .45 acp belt pouch you can fit numerous different, and some unusual combinations of equipment. Combinations I carry are:

1. 2 double stack .45 acp magazines for my Witness
2. 1 magazine for Witness or Makarov and one UPT or folding knife
3. 1 UPT and two 5 round Speedloaders for my Ruger SP101 (sitting one on top of the other)
4. One magazine or 2 speedloaders or one UPT and a firestarting kit

Portable reloading kits

These days most serious shooters tend to reload, but what about those "bugout" times if they come? Will you have time to rip out your bolted down progressive reloader and gather up all of your reloading gear?

I have thought about this for a bit and come to the descion that I needed a portable reloading "kit". The core of this kit is a throwback to my roots of reloading. I have ordered, for the time being, 2 sets of Lee Classic Handloaders in .44 Magnum and .357...
